DOUBT

What do you do when every bone in your body is telling you that you’re destined for something big… but you have no friggin’ idea just what that “something” is? If you want my advice, step #1 is “listen to this interview with Shevonne Joyce.” Because not only has she been there, she’s come out the other side, unapologetically disrupting the world of entrepreneurship.

Shevonne is a self-described humanist who is obsessed with the business of changing the world. She works 1-on-1 with female entrepreneurs who want to make it big, women who get out of bed every day compelled to use their businesses to majorly disrupt the world as we know it. And I have a feeling that if the Shevonne from two and a half years ago could see herself today, she wouldn’t believe her eyes. Lucky for me (and you!), she’s not afraid to talk about her journey from crushing self-doubt to smashing success.

“There are going to be moments when nobody else believes in you, and the belief that you have in yourself is going to need to be enough to propel you forward. […] When you’re invested and you’re prepared, and you believe in yourself when no one else does, that’s when you know you’ve found your purpose. If you’re looking for your purpose, I encourage you to look at what’s right in front of your face, because it is there and you will find it.”

During her 10+ years in a corporate role, Shevonne kept hearing, over and over, that her big ideas and her desire to change the world weren’t assets — they were problems. (Gee, I can’t imagine why she didn’t stick around!) Now, she’s using that passion, along with her incredible brand, to really dig in to the problems women in business face, but nobody’s really talking about.

In this episode, Shevonne will tell you all about:

  • How the self-doubt she felt in her business showed up in her closest relationships
  • Using critical (but well-meaning) comments as fuel to discover her true purpose
  • When slowing down, shutting up, and honoring the pain is the best thing to do
  • What made her start the #payforprogress movement — and the uncomfortable conversations it led to
  • Her advice for anyone out there listening who’s stuck in the self-doubting cycle

For the next hour, put up your feet and direct your haters to the left! Shevonne bridged a massive time zone gap to have this conversation with me, because it’s always “burn the bullshit o’clock” somewhere. By my watch, that’s right here, right now.
